Ethnographic Photographs Series 1 - Negatives [Mid 20th Century]

Digital copies of mid 20th century photographs taken as part of ethnographic, historical and artistic research. Photographic subjects include architecture and buildings, Bulgarian material culture (including examples of pottery, tools, and kitchen utensils), landscapes, industry, religious buildings and artifacts, foodstuffs, celebrations and rituals, costumes, paintings and illustrations.

The photographs were taken in Bulgaria and Hungary, in the following districts: Radomir, Lovech, Veliko Turnovo, Haskovo, Ivailovgrad, Kirkovo, Krumovgrad, Khisia, Kurdzhali, Plovdiv, Sliven, Kotel, Stara Zagora, Chirpan, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Teteven, and the Rodopi Mountains.

Work by various photographers is featured in the collection; unfortunately these are often unidentified, or identified by surname only. They include: Boris Georgiev, N. Nikolov, I. Koev, Vasil Marinov, M. Veleva, R. Pesheva, Grigorov, Ivanov, Ilieva, Primovski, and Todorov.
