Digitising and preserving the Vulnerable Childhood Archive: Sociedad Protectora de la Infancia (EAP1626)

Aims and objectives

The Sociedad Protectora de la Infancia (the Child Protection Society) provided services to thousands of poor, abandoned and orphaned children in Chile since its foundation in 1894. This little-known archive holds an endangered documentary heritage, an extraordinary source on the cultural and political history of childhood in need of preservation and digitisation. The richness of this collection lies in the uniqueness of its documents and their potential contribution to research on the well-being of poor children, education, the working class and modern charitable association and social policy.
