Preservation of the Manuscripts of the Jaffna Bishop’s House (1775-1948) (EAP1222)

Aims and objectives

This third phase of our project aims to complete the digitisation and preservation of the remaining batch of the archival material found at the Jaffna Bishop’s House. The realisation of the present project would:

1) make accessible to all the totality of a rare source material about the Northern provinces of pre-independent Sri Lanka,

2) help to train a couple of young deaf-mute trainees in archival and digitisation techniques and

3) help to raise a permanent  awareness about preservation and dissemination of endangered heritage.

Outcomes

Dr Murugaiyan took part in "Historical Records of Jaffna Bishop's House 1750-1950" organised by L'Association Sri Lankaise Des Anciens Étudiants En France (ASLAEF) on the 4 July 2021. A recording of the presentation is available online.

The records copied by this project have been catalogued as:

  • EAP1222/1 Jaffna Bishop’s House Manuscript Collection ‎ (1775-1948)

Due to the cyber-attack on the British Library in October 2023, the archives and manuscripts database is currently inaccessible and we are unable to provide links to the catalogue records for this project.
