Aims and objectives
The purpose of the project is to research, digitise and archive early Cyrillic books and manuscripts of old believers in Kostroma region. This will give opportunity to preserve and capture vanishing traditional material and spiritual culture characteristic of the Russian late Middle Ages and Modern Times. Key traits of these epochs remain in the mostly integral form particularly in the old believers communities, which are socially and geographically detached from the environs. Project participants plan to visit traditional residing places of old believers, digitise books and manuscripts and, if the owners give consent, transfer some of the books and manuscripts to Kostroma Museum-Reserve for storage.
