Aims and objectives
The project aims to digitise notarial documents of the First Notary Office Monteria City, capital of the department of Cordoba, located in the south of Cartagena de Indias, which was an important river port that connected several towns through where the Sinú River flowed, which facilitated the supply of food and goods to the area, as well as the departure of agricultural and forestry products to Cartagena. Most of the memory and social, economic and cultural history of Monteria and the Sinú region is found in notarial documents.
Outcomes
The project managed to produce 199,898 images corresponding to 206 notarial protocol books from the First Notary Office of the city of Montería, Department of Córdoba, in the Colombian Caribbean, dating back to the period 1908-1950. These documents are important because they allow us to trace the economic, social and cultural dynamism of the Sinú region in the period addressed, considered the “golden age” of Sinú, when the area was a kind of productive zone that supplied food to the city of Cartagena. Three copies of the digitized material have been created: one for the British Library, another for the General and Historical Archive of the Department of Córdoba, and another for the University of Cartagena under the custody of the Society, Science and Culture Research Group, attached to the same institution.
The following Methodology Report was submitted as part of the project outputs:
