Digitisation of 20 remote Bhutanese archives (EAP1494)

Aims and objectives

The remote archives of Bhutan house rich and rare collections of manuscripts, which have largely remained unknown and inaccessible to a wider readership and vulnerable to damage and destruction. Having successfully documented 44 libraries in the past, mostly through EAP funding, the Loden Foundation wishes to carry on the expertise and social capital we have gained and digitise 20 more archives containing rare manuscripts in east, west, and central parts of Bhutan. Using digital photography, this project aims to produce about 2000 books in order to both preserve them in digital copies and make them available to a wider readership.
