Uganda Olympic team, Seoul [1988]

Ugandan Olympic team. Seoul Olympics 1988. Possibly from the opening ceremony as the different nations enter the stadium.

The men are wearing kanzu and coats and the women are wearing kikoyi gomesi. One of the men is carrying a Uganda flag. George Kassede stands next to him. The Federal Republic of Germany team are in the background.

Information added by George Kassede as the chairman of the National Council of Sports then was sent by the govenment to head the team that represented Uganda in the Olympic Games of 1988 in Korea. He tells a story of his Kanzu and jacket that were no fitting because he was not measured before they were brought. So when he got to Korea, he went to an unground town to have a new kanzu made and the seamstress he consulted told him that she wouldnt be able to redo the embroidery on the kanzu. so she suggested adding extra material in the middle of the kanzu and also on the sleeves to make them longer. She advised him not to put off the coat otherwise he would look fuuny. So then he went to a shop to look for a coat as well and luckily enough the Korean police uniform was blue just like the coats the Uganda team were putting on. He asked them for the largest size they had and they looked for it. It was then given to him free because they did not expect to have a police officer as big as George.
