House of Durtlang chief [c 1916-c 1931]

This photograph shows the house of Chief M. Suaka (of Durtlang, Aijal), which was then held as one of the best buildings among the Mizos, Six British flags crown the colonial style bungalow, and announce Pu Suaka's loyalty. Pu Suaka also demonstrates his wealth by displaying his silverware. Much information can be gleaned from such a photograph. Pu Suaka had his second house built in September of 1933; this house still stands today in Durtlang, Aijal.
