The Sim of Vat Mai Suvannaphumaram.Story: It was built by King Anurut in C.S.1158 (A.D.1796) when he was 82 years old and 24 years as King.In C.S.1183 (A.D.1821) King Mangthaturat, a son of King Anurut repaired and built an another big Buddha and put it behind the one which made by his father. And he also built the terrace at the back of the Sim.In C.S.1253 (A.D.1891) King Sakkarin Khamsuk built two terraces on eastern and western sides of the Sim.In C.S.1257 (A.D.1895) King Sakkarin Khamsuk and the supreme patriarch Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Tan Tissapanya Maha Thela (see photograph No. H8001 and H8008) invited the important Buddha figure Pha Bang from Vat Vixunnarat to establish at Vat Mai.Information from Legend of monasteries in Luang Prabang city by Tiao Khamman Vongkotratana 1964, p.27-28.Decoration in front outside wall of the Sim was done in 1962 by a graet Lan Xang artist, Phia Thit Tan (see No. H0108) with order by King Si Savang Vatthana.Vat Mai used to serve for staying four supreme patriarches of Lan Xang Luang Prabang Kingdom of Laos since 1854 until 1975 such as Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Tan Tissapanya Maha Thera died in C.S.1273 (A.D.1911), Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Pan Panyavuttha Maha Thela died in A.D.1929, Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Khun Rattana Maha Thela died in A.D.1931 and Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Bunthan Dhammayana Maha Thera died in 1984.
