King Sisavangvathana was offering The Meditating Buddha image to Sathouyai Mao Manivangso,the abbot of Wat Xiengthong in the Royal Palace on 5th July,1960.(This photograph is the smae as C0228).The Meditating Buddha is the Buddha for Thursday.After the Budhha-to-be had meditated under the Bodhi-tree for a long time and had withstood the temptations of Mara(devil),he contemplated further and finally realised nirvana in the night of 15th of the waxing-moon of the 6th month of the Budhhist Calendar(Visakha Day).The rejoicingof the gods made the earth shake and it rained celestial flowers.
