Buddhist ceremony [1965]

After putting the monk's robes on, the Naga (the candidae for the ordination) will be ordained to become a novice. The preceptor (who sometimes will also be the right-hand sponsor or the left-hand sponsor) will give ten precepts to him to observe before getting ordained to become a monk. This photograph shows the ordination ceremony of Phia Hatsakaud (Ajan Thongdee) at Vat Saen Sukharam in 1970. The Sangharaj Dhammayana Mahathera was the preceptor. Sathou Khamchan Virachitto from Vat Saen Sukhrama, who was his left hand sponsor, gave him then ten precepts to become a novice.
