Monk individual portrait [1925]

Sathou Nyai Khamdee Disapanyo (1890-1951), the former abbot of Vat Nong Sikhoumeuang. He was born at Ban Houa Phon (Ban Vat Nong), Luang Prabang in C.E. 1890. He is a son of Mr. This Thong from Ban Khok Laoh, Chiang Khan District, Leuay Province, Thailand and Mrs. Keo La (Nang Phia Khuan Theng) Ban Houa Phon (Ban Vat Nong), Luang Prabang. At the age of 15, he had ordained to be a novice at Vat Nong Sikhounmeuang for a year then he had moved to Vat Pa Siaw, Ban Xieng Maen, Chomphet District, Luang Prabang for practicing meditation with Sathou Phoumma. At the age of 21, he had ordained to be a monk at Vat Pa Siaw for four years the he stopped being a monk for two years. In 1920, he had ordained to be a monk again at Vat Pa Siaw. In 1925, he had been to study in Burma for six months.In 1931, he had nominated to be an abbot of Vat Nong Sikhounmeuang.In 1949, he had nominated to be a chief monk for the north Buddhist Sangha ( Xiengthong Group).He passed away at the age of 61 on 5 June, 1951.This photo was taken at Saensilp Photo in 1925, at the age of 35.
