74-inch Radcliffe Reflector, Pretoria

Interior of the 74-inch building at Radcliffe Observatory, Pretoria, showing the north pier, the RA assembly and the mirror end of the telescope, seen from below and looking south-west. The telescope is to the east. Note the protective string-tied wrappings around the circles. Below the mirror cell is a triangular structure with 5 weights at the apex. This may have been used to balance the telescope before an actual instrument was attached. The name plate on the cube of the mount reads "Grubb-Parsons / Newcastle-on-Tyne / England / 1938".
