Construction site of the 60-inch building, seen from the west. The building's primary brick work is partially completed. Within the pit, the south pier is being constructed. The top of a crane standing in the pit can be seen. A "RANSOME" machine is visible in the midground. Near the left edge of the frame, the upper and central sections of the telescope can be seen, as can the cradle. About 10 people are visible. The foyer is shored up by planking. Piles of gravel are visible in the centre, and several large sacks are in the foreground. Hand-written label: "BOYDEN STATION. - So. AFRICA / 60[inch] tel. building. - (Sept. 21, 1931)".
