Digitisation of Vilnius Belarusian heritage (EAP1623)

Aims and objectives

The I. Lutskevich Vilnius Belarusian Museum archives contain material that belonged to Belarusian activists who worked in Vilnius during the interwar years. Among the material intended to be digitised are manuscripts (correspondence, memoirs, articles and albums), photographs and rare books. These items cover a range of topics including education, repression, publishing, cultural activities and daily life. During the interwar years, Vilnius harboured prominent academics, activists and creators, many educated by the newly established Belarusian institutions. Many later faced repercussions for their work when Vilnius became part of the Soviet Union; some were even deported to Stalin's camps. Their archives offer valuable insight into the ideas and practices governing early Belarusian national activism.
