Custodial history: Sadharan Brahmo Samaj was established in year of 1878. The Brahmo Samaj literally means the society of the worshippers of the One True God. Brahmo Samaj or religion is an intellectual as well as socio-religious reformation movement started by Raja Ram Mohan Roy as Adi Brahmo Samaj and later successfully carried out by Devendranath Tagore. Sadharan Brahmo Samaj inherited these philosophy with more devotion towards society. The library of Sadharan Brahmo Samaj was founded in 1879. This library is having a collection of over 25,000 rare books and periodicals mainly for periods covering 1850 to 1950. The collection mainly on subjects of History, Philosophy, Theology and Religion. An ideal place for researchers on relevant subjects and for students and enthusiast on History.

Administrative context: The CSSSC, on realising the importance of copying the collection applied for a grant to the EAP against which EAP921 has been awarded.
