The Tīrthalāl Naghabhanī Archive (TLA): Candannāth Papers

The collection contains documents related to Tīrthalāl’s ancestor Gayālāl Rajbhandari and his stint as a government employee in the Candannath Kampani, Jumla and neighbouring areas during the latter half of the XIX Century. This includes Gayālāl’s personal papers (loan deeds, letters, legal dispute) and the official documents (Lalmohars, Rukkas, formal reports, and correspondence generated by various Army Kampanis, mainly the Candannath Kampani and their senior and junior personnel stationed in the Karnali region.

Custodial history: TLF (Collection inherited by Tīrthalāl through his family) --TLC (Tīrthalāl Collection).

The dates, including the use of calendars, in the Listing are as given in the original documents, except where the exact date is not given. The calendars used in the documents are Vikram Samvat (VS), Nepal Samvat (NS) and Śaka Samvat. The use of the terms Sudi and Vadi (waxing and waning halves of the lunar month) have been replaced with Śukla and Kṛṣṇa respectively. To convert VS to CE, subtract 57 (Caitra-Pauṣ) and subtract 56 (Pauṣ-Phāgun) from the VS. Similarly, to convert NS to CE add 880 to NS. And, add 78 to convert Śaka Samvat to CE.
