Medical Archives of Mengo Hospital, Uganda, housed at the Makerere University College of Health Sciences Albert Cook Library

Handwritten medical notes for patients who visited Mengo Hospital between 1897-1944. The Sir Albert Cook Library comprises Sir Albert Cook’s original handwritten patient records dating back to 1897 to 1944. In 1965, the medical library was named after its founder, hence its official name “Sir Albert Cook Memorial Library”.

All of the material was owned by Sir Albert Cook who was a Church Missonary Society Doctor and who founded Mengo Hospital in Uganda. The medical notes were taken and hand-written by him. Names of patients have been redacted to protect their identities.
