El Diario Nicaragüense

Description: In 1884 Anselmo H. Rivas and Rigoberto Cabezas founded "Diario de Nicaragua", the first daily newspaper in the country. Since July 1884, after the partnership between Rivas and Cabezas dissolved, Rivas continued to publish the newspaper under the name "El Diario Nicaragüense". It was Nicaragua's most prestigious and longest running newspaper until the mid 20th Century. After the death of Anselmo H. Rivas, the newspaper was edited by his son, Anselmo Rivas G., and later by Pedro Joaquín Cuadra Chamarro. The newspaper followed a conservative political ideology. The last issue of this newspaper was published in 1956. Extent of original material: 2 series.
