Veḷḷiyaṅkuṇram Pulikēci Collection [1802-1958]

This collection (1802-1958) contains one copper plate describing the honour (first right) given to immuTi kanhaka raamaya kavuNTanh of veLLiyangkunhRam village by Tirumalai Nayyakkar, sovereign of Madurai for performing the festival at azakarkoyil; one official stamp used affix to a document (as to attest to its authenticity or to seal it) for kaLLa azakar teevastaanham committee members; 334 palm-leaf documents, 4 printed books, 16 handwritten notebooks and 649 handwritten, typewritten and printed paper documents addressing issues such as vigilance rights, sale agreements, judgements issued for various disputes and crimes such as separation of properties, surrendering of criminals, murder and theft of a diadem etc., land documents such as land lease, land sale, land loan, land donation, land details; servitude (aTimai) agreement, zamin and village lease, agreement for separation and expansion of villages, loan deeds, work agreements, agreements for irrigation and maintenance of tanks, village panchayat, accounts, tax collection, receipts etc., court documents such as petitions, depositions, summons, judgements etc., letter and notices sent to and by various government offices in and around the veLLiyangkunhRam village by and to immuTi kanhaka raamaiya kavuNTar, zamin of veLLiyangkunhRam and the people and village headmen (ampalakkaarar) of neighbouring villages such as meelaiuppilikuNTu village, kallanhai village, veLLiyangkunhRam village and other surrounding villages; and also contains the caste (kampaLar) agreement for holding panchayats, marriage, first right etc.
