B.D.K Saldin Collection of Malay Manuscripts [mid 19th century]

Description: Manuscripts not dated but probably from mid 19th century. They are part of a larger collection owned by BDK Saldin, including a printed book missing opening pages-no date visible but likely from around the same period. Manuscripts are compendiums of Islamic texts, including stories of the prophets, charms and theological materials. Collection also includes a dictionary with a short grammar of the Malay language written for foreigners, possibly missionaries. Extent and format of original material: 2 manuscripts. Physical characteristics of original material: The manuscripts are in relatively good condition, bound and written in ink that has not faded. Both are written by several different hands.
