Photographic collection of the Museo de La Plata’s Department of Archaeology 002

This section, together with other non-anthropological sections, is part of the photographic collection of the Museo de La Plata’s Department of Archaeology. There, it bears the number 002. The items that compose it were arranged as it was established in the Resolution by the Board of the Institution in 1937 and come from different contexts, such as field expeditions taken by Museo de La Plata employees or by independent travelers, and also photographs taken by commercial photographic studios. For details of this different contexts, see Institution/Individual Description. The fact that the Museo de La Plata’s Departments of Archaeology and Ethnography have worked together until at least 1948, when they were separated, probably explains that part of the photographic material more directly related to anthropology and ethnography has remained ever since in the Department of Archaeology. The classification of material by the Department of Archaeology appears to correspond to that given by the Resolution established by the Board of the Institution in 1937, although the material did not enter the Photographic Archive (AFO), as the resolution stated. The photographic documents that this section of the collection comprises come from different contexts, such as field expeditions taken by Museo de La Plata’s employees and other institutions, by independent travelers and also photographs taken by commercial photographic studios.
