Pambala Hakku Patras

These are Hakku Patra from the Pambala community. The Pambala community is found in the border areas of Tamilnadu and Chittoor districts of AP State. These performers were referred to in the Sangha Sahityam of II Century BC. These artists still use Perumba, a brass musical instrument, holding it in both hands and waving it in the air to create music rhythmically. The metal balls make rhythmic sounds. This act is called Perambatta. 'Perumba' means musical instrument and 'atta' means play or performance.

Pambala community people are not only performers, and story tellers they are also caste gurus. Pambala artists tell a story which they had originally on copper plate. Now they have lost it. The names of villages included in the system of ‘Patti’, they are still following.
