Cercado [1838-1928]

It contains the register of the population of this Province that lived in the communities and in the "haciendas" (large private states) and continued paying, as in the Colonial Period, a state tax known as the "indigenal contribution", amounting as much as 40% of the state total income. In this territorial jusrisdiction are the following Cantons: Mecapaca, Collana, Palca, Coni (Cohoni), Haraca, Chanca, Achocalla, Santa Barbara, Obrajes, San Pedro, San Sebastián, Ingavi, Songo (Zongo), Sapahaqui, Caracato, Curahuara, Umala, Ayo Ayo, Calamarca, Araca, Yaco, Villa de la Alianza and Luribay.

The Province was created by the Decree of January 8 1838, and called later the Murillo Province by the Law of Octuber 17 1912.
