Museum Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kota Tanjungpinang Collection [1807-1963]

Digital images of a collection of manuscripts held by the Museum Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kota Tanjungpinang. The collection contains handwritten texts, printed books, and archival documents such as official governmental documents and also private letters. The majority of the handwritten and printed texts deal with aspects of the Islamic faith, such as jurisprudence (fiqh), mysticism (tasawuf), tradition of the Prophet (hadith) and others. There is also a manuscript with recepies for traditional medicines and amulets. Almost all the manuscripts originate from Palembang in South Sumatra. The collection also contains archival materials, such as official letters from the Dutch Indies government and the Church council of Riau. There are also private letters that were once part of the private collection of the family Diaz, a Portuguese-Malacca family that has been living in Tanjungpinang for many generations, many serving as scribes and officials in the local government. Based on the years and dates that can be found in some manuscripts and other documents the items in the collection range from 1807 to 1963.
