They are lambskin manuscripts with varied information about the activities of the Franciscan Order since its arrival in Peru in 1532 and which, roughly speaking, contain a number of files on Royal Cédulas de curatos; Elections of Ministers, Commissioners and Provincials of the Franciscan Order; Documentation of Convents of the different regions where the order was present, namely, Panama, Saña (current Chiclayo-Peru), Chancay (current Department of Lima), Huaraz, Pisco (current Ica-Peru), Cajamarca (Peru), Callao, Huamanga (current Ayacucho-Peru), Huánuco, Chachapoyas, Piura, Trujillo, etc.; monasteries of nuns in Huamanga (now Ayacucho-Peru), Trujillo, Cajamarca, etc.; Doctrines of natives in Cajamarca, Lunahuaná (current Department of Lima), Surco (current Department of Lima), Jauja Valley (current Junín), etc.; Lives (biographies) of religious; Information on postulants who have taken the Franciscan habit (8 books that, strictly speaking, can be considered as 'Novice Books'); Bulls and apostolic provisions; Books of General Constitutions as well as those of the Province in particular; brotherhood information; etc. The detailed information per book is offered in the descriptors of each Record Book. Regarding the general contents, it offers rich information of (ethno)historical, ecclesiastical, legal, geographical, linguistic, philological interest, etc. These books were bound at different times according to the periods of the Provincial Ministers. All have an index and their foliation varies between 165 and 1185 folios. The Archive preserves to date 41 of these books (one of which, R.30, is divided into 2 parts). It is worth mentioning that there are 9 missing books, of which some of them are in the National Library of Peru (Books Records 35 and 38), and in other cases, there were losses due to the overconfidence of the religious as well as due to the lack of security measures that were not taken at that time.

Son manuscritos en piel de cordero con información variada acerca de las actividades de la Orden Franciscana desde su llegada al Perú en 1532 y que, grosso modo, contiene números expedientes de Cédulas Reales de curatos; Elecciones de Ministros, Comisarios y Provinciales de la Orden Franciscana; Documentación de Conventos de las diferentes regiones en donde tenía presencia la orden, a saber, Panamá, Saña (actual Chiclayo-Perú), Chancay (actual Departamento de Lima), Huaraz, Pisco (actual Ica-Perú), Cajamarca (Perú), Callao, Huamanga (actual Ayacucho-Perú), Huánuco, Chachapoyas, Piura, Trujillo, etc.; monasterios de monjas en Huamanga (actual Ayacucho-Perú), Trujillo, Cajamarca, etc.; Doctrinas de naturales en Cajamarca, Lunahuaná (actual Departamento de Lima), Surco (actual Departamento de Lima), valle de Jauja (actual Junín), etc.; Vidas (biografías) de religioso; Informaciones de postulantes que han tomado el hábito franciscanos (8 libros que, en rigor, puede ser considerados como ‘Libros de Novicios’); Bulas y disposiciones apostólicas; Libros de Constituciones generales así como los de la Provincia en particular; información de cofradías; etc. La información detallada por libro se ofrece en los descriptores de cada Libro de Registro. En cuanto a los contenidos generales está ofrece rica información de interés (etno)histórico, eclesiástico, jurídico, geográfico, lingüístico, filológico, etc. Dichos libros se encuadernaron en épocas diferentes de acuerdo a los períodos de los Ministros Provinciales. Todos tienen índice y su foliación varía entre los 165 y 1185 folios. El Archivo conserva a la fecha 41 de estos libros (uno de los cuales, el R.30, está dividido en 2 partes). Es de mencionar que, hay 9 libros faltantes, de los cuales, algunos de ellos se encuentran en la Biblioteca Nacional del Perú (Libros Registros 35 y 38), y en otros casos, hubo pérdidas tanto por el exceso de confianza de los religiosos como por la falta de medidas de seguridad que no se tomaron en esos momentos.

Custodial history: The digital images of this collection were created as part of the EAP1487 project "Digitalisation of manuscript records of the First Section of the documentary fund of the San Francisco de Lima Archive". The original material is housed in the San Francisco Archive in Lima.

Arrangement: These books were organized and described through the "Organization and Recovery of the San Francisco de Lima Archive" project, financed by the Support Program for the Development of Ibero-American Archives (ADAI Program) of Spain, between 2001 and 2002.
