The Anglo Institute Library was founded in 1934 with the aim of strengthening cultural ties between Uruguay and the United Kingdom. Over the years it became one of the most important references of British culture in Uruguay. The Library's mission is to take care of the valuable heritage accumulated over the years as well as to acquire new material and incorporate it into its collection. It has a series of unique English-language periodicals in Uruguay. Among these titles is The Montevideo Times.
Extent: 470 newspaper issues.
Custodial history: The ANGLO Institute collection is constantly growing. The Library acquires material, receives donations and exchanges titles. Many of the materials that make up its newspaper collection have been donated by individuals trusting in the protection and storage that the Institution can provide. The collection was in The Uruguayan English Club and was donated by them to the Institute.
Arrangement: The Anglo Institute Library has most of its collection cataloged and systematized. To classify their collection, they use the Universal Decimal Classification (CDU). Part of the collection is available for free access and another part is in the repository. The most sensitive materials - due to their age, condition and content - are in a special room that is only accessible to Institution team. The collection has been arranged in volumes ranging January-June and July-December. There are two volumes for each year.
