Prabha, entitled ‘illustrated political monthly’ was printed at the Pratap Press and published from Kanpur since 1920. It featured articles and cartoons on politics and history of India and the world. This series includes six issues of the monthly magazine Prabha from July to December 1924. All the issues in this series are edited by Balkrishna Sharma. The section on global politics included discussions on a variety of topics such as immigration laws in Japan and USA, and women’s suffrage. They include articles on politics, historical themes pertaining to India as well as other parts of the world, Gendalal Dixit, the unfolding of the Satyagraha movement in Delhi in two parts in the July and November issues, a serialised autobiographical narrative by Rash Behari Bose, and biographies of Amirchand Bombwal and Gendalal Dixit. Also contains an article on translations of Omar Khayyam’s works, and literary pieces. They also feature cartoons on the social and political climate of the time. Short stories, cartoons and book reviews were also important constituents of Prabha. The special Jhandā (Flag) issue of Prabha was proscribed by the colonial administration.
