Gautam Mitra Collection of Popular Market Bengali Books [c 2005]

This fonds consists of 44 books digitised as part of the EAP127 project. The books date from c 2005.

The collection covers a broad range of subjects, typical of Popular Market Bengali Books, including: popular literature, such as ghost stories and detective novels; books of devotion and religious rites; film scores and song books; guides for health and wellbeing; folklore; and poetry.

Gautam Mitra owns and holds the original books, which he collected during his travels around Kolkata and the surrounding districts. The books are primarily written in Bengali, although occasional items (in whole or in part) appear in Hindi and English.
