Devajit Bandyopadhyay Collection of Theatre Booklets [c 1925-2005]

This fonds consists of 134 theatre booklets digitised as part of the EAP127 project. The originals were published c 1925-2005.

These booklets were produced in small print runs by independent publishers. They were intended to mark and promote new theatrical productions and to serve as a memento. They commonly include an outline of the plot, photographs of the performance, information about the cast and crew, and song lyrics. The majority of the collection is undated.

The booklets were published and distributed by the following theatre production companies, individuals and publishers.

The original publications are owned by Devajit Bandyopadhyay, who obtained them at performances and from antique book dealers and private sources in and around Kolkata.

The booklets are primarily written in Bengali script although romanised Bengali is occasionally used, alongside English.
