School of Cultural Texts and Records' Collection C

This sub-fonds consists of 103 Bengali 'popular market' books digitised as part of the EAP127 project. The original materials in this collection were donated to the School of Cultural Texts and Records by Arun Ghosh.

The original material dates from the late 19th to the early 21st centuries; most of the items date from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, although much of the material is undated.

The collection covers the full range of subjects typical to Bengali 'popular market' or 'chapbooks' including: religous verses and texts, and manuals on worship; popular literature, including horror stories, detective novels, and humour; folklore and superstition; educational material for many subjects; erotica; finance; politics.
