Mahadeb Das Baul Collection

A collection of Baul songs which were initially collected and copied by the father and grandfather of the manuscripts’ owner (Laxman Das Baul and saint-songwriter Nabani Das Khyapa Baul, who lived in 1892- 1964). The notebooks digitised in the collection are hand copied from older notebooks by the owner of the collection, Mahadeb, his brother Sukhdeb, and their father Laxman Das Baul. The songs' original composers are multiple: Haure Gosain, Lalan Shah, Bhaba Pagla, Nabani Khyapa, among others. The collection also includes eight photographs, one document, and a letter which were found between pages of the notebooks.

Custodial history: Family possession of the owner, Mahadeb Das Baul.

Arrangement: Mahadeb, the owner of the collection kept the notebooks in a trunk, each wrapped in a plastic bag or wrapped in a calendar or in a cloth bag. Some of the notebooks are numbered. However, they were not kept following the serial number.
