Author(s)/Creator(s): Liceo Enrique Molina Garmendia of Concepción is the third oldest lyceum in the country. Founded in 1823 as a Literary Institute, it will cease to function in 1835 due to an earthquake that will collapse its facilities. It will reemerge as a Provincial College until 1846 when a fire ends its building again. In 1951 it was installed in a new location receiving in 1853 the name of Liceo de Concepción. In 1959 the lyceum will be renamed the Enrique Molina Garmendia Lyceum in homage to the professor and rector of the lyceum in the period 1915-1935. It will provide secondary education to a population from an area of significant industrial development during the 20th century. The current establishment was inaugurated in 1968 replacing the building collapsed by the 1960 earthquake.
