Archivo Sociedad de Beneficencia de Lima Metropolitana [1568-1932]

The Sociedad de Beneficencia Pública de Lima, SBPL, was created in June 1834. Its main function was to organize the public charity system in the capital of the new Peruvian republic. The SBPL brought together a series of charitable foundations, hospital institutions and pious works. To manage the real estate associated with these three items, it assumed all the documentation related to them. Around 1865, the SBPL received the properties of the Lima brotherhoods (cofradías) under administration. In the XXI century the institution was renamed, from SBPL to Sociedad de Beneficencia Metropolitana de Lima.
