This collection is comprised of Portuguese manuscript documents from the Church of São Gonçalo do Amarante in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The volumes were produced during the colonial, Imperial, and Republican periods and consist of baptismal records (1647 - 1890), marriage records (1734 - 1889), and burial records (1733-1889) of free, freed (forro/liberto), and enslaved people. Custodial history: The volumes were produced by the Church of São Gonçalo do Amarante. In accordance with local custom and Canonical Law, all documentation of a permanent nature produced by the Parish is transferred to the Archive of the Archdiocese of Niterói after 70 years.
