Kouyate’s collection contains: old manuscripts written in classical Arabic in prose and poetry, manuscripts in Arabic with glosses in Arabic, Soninke, and Mandinka, Mandinka Ajami texts, and bilingual Arabic-Mandinka documents. The manuscripts deal with various religious and secular subjects. Dual literacy in classical Arabic and Ajami is necessary to comprehend the content of some of the documents.
