Alexander Johnston Paper

Typed copy of letter written by E.A. Dharmaratne in 1892 to Captain F.E. Johnston of the Royal Navy. Dharmaratne was the son of a Ceylonese man brought to England by Sir Alexander Johnston in 1818 and educated by Dr. Adam Clarke. When he returned to Ceylon, Alexander Dharmaratne became Chief Headman (Moodliar) to three important disticts on the island and remained highly attached to A.J., who was his godfather. In this letter, his son E.A. Dharmaratne notes that his father instructed him to find A.J.'s descendants and make contact with them.
