Later, already at the end of the 19th century.this manuscript fell into the hands of the famous Dagestan shaykh Saifullah-kadiBashlarov (See No 3 in this database. More about Saifullah-kadi Bashlarov see: Shamil Shikhaliev, Michael Kemper. “Saifullah-QadiBashlarov: Sufi Networks between the North Caucasus and the Volga-Urals”, in: ThePiety of Learning. Islamic Studies in Honor of Stefan Reichmuth, ed. byMichael Kemper, Ralf Elger, (Leiden / Boston: Brill, 2017), 166 – 198.). Shortly before Bashlarov’s death in 1919, hepresented this manuscript, along with other manuscripts, to Ali Kayaev

Brief translation of the first page of themanuscript: “ In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. In Him wetrust in all our affairs. Holy are You, Our Lord, all praise belongs to You, OHoly One. O Healer of souls, who sent a messenger to the jinn and people. Onewho is devoid of any flaws. He made the father of mankind a vicegerent onEarth, and entrusted it to his descendants. Peace and blessings be upon HisMessenger Muhammad. O Allah, bless and bless him, as well as his companions, possessors of all kinds of virtues and the best qualities. And then. When thespoils of war came to us from Shamakhi, among other things, there was a book byMuhammad Al-Mumin Al-Husseini Ad-Deylami "Tuhfatul Muminin"("Gift to the Believers"). But since it was written in Persian, scientists in our area could not benefit from it. So, one day our amir and rais(ruler) heard certain words of some doctors, and he himself was versed in thisscience, after which he ordered to find someone who would translate this bookinto Arabic so that we could all learn from her favor. Then I thought tomyself, because the author of this work dedicated it to his master Suleiman(the author’s footnote is Pasha Qizilbash), the head of the Rafidis andIsnaasharis (Twelver Shiites), and this was in the year 180 (AH), then I musttry to convey this work and dedicate it to the sultan of sultans, the source ofnobility and unshakable faith, an ascetic of his time among the best, who is inno way inferior to neighboring rulers (the author’s footnote is from among theutsmi and shamkhals), Surhay Bek, the son of the late Karai Bek, may AllahAlmighty prolong the days his imarat (rule) over creations, amin. So, with mymodest store of knowledge and with the great help of Allah Almighty, I setabout this work. And it was in the year one thousand one hundred andthirty-three from the prophetic Hijra in the last decade of the forbidden monthof Muharram. I ask everyone who has looked into this work, having found anerror in it, whether in vocabulary or grammar, to correct me and find the bestexcuse for me. For the sake of Allah Almighty. For by this the believers willgain benefit, for wisdom is a noble knowledge, which every knowledgeable onestrives for and every ignorant shuns it, and whoever deeply understands andcomprehends it exudes it. Allah Almighty, Holy and Great, said about this:"He will give wisdom to whom He wills, and the one to whom wisdom isgranted is endowed with great good." (Author's footnote - ayat). TheProphet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said: “There is a curefor every disease, except death.” (Author's footnote - Hadith). Know that I amlike the one who gave Suleiman (the prophet) a leg of locusts, due to theabsence of anything else. "Presenting a locust paw to Suleiman - God, howugly. But if an ant did it, then this act is beautiful." (Author'sfootnote - verse). And finally, it is no secret to one who is able to reflectthat there are varieties and forms of everything. And those who have knowledgedistinguish one from the other. Thus, everything is made up of variousparticles. For example, milk, it consists of water-like, fat-like and whey-likesubstances
