File of manuscript letters relating to Alexander Johnston (1775-1849) and his descendants, arranged by Sri Lankan historian and businessman James T. Rutnam, including letters ranging in dates from 1797 to 1915.

File includes a number of letters, income and expenditure statements, and receipts from Alexander Johnston (?-?), from various Pay Office in the Caribbean, including Hispaniola, Jamaica, and St. Domingo, dated between 1797 and 1799. A 1837 letter by Alexander Johnston (1775-1849) noting his position as Chief Justice in Ceylon. A letter informing S.C.G. Campbell Johnston (?-?) of a new commission in the Royal Navy reserves from 1886. An 1857 letter to F.P.M. Johnston (?-?) from a Mr. Arbuthnot (?-?) of Madras regarding payment of Rs. 10. An 1888 schedule of investments made by Alexander R. Campbell Johnston (?-?).
