வர்ம சூத்திரம்

Title in original script: வர்ம சூத்திரம் The manuscript is composed of a text, incomplete and written in verses, whose the palm leaves are numbered from 1 to 58. Although some leaves are darkened by fungus infestation, the manuscript is in excellent state. The text, entitled Varma Cūttiram and written in verses, deals with varma practice, for which it describes diverse acupressure on vital points (varma): naṭcattira kālam, cevi kuṟṟi kālam, piṭari kālam, uṟakka kālam, tummi kālam, uṟumi kālam, aṭappa kālam, curukki kālam, kallaṭai kālam, caṅku tiri kālam, mūttira kālam, aṇṭa kālam, tevaḷai kālam, kavuḷi kālam, āmai kālam, kompēri kālam and aṭaṅkal kālam; patakkaḷai varmam, pūṭṭēllu varmam, viḷakku varmam, puca varmam, vittu varmam, cuḷukku varmam, muṭṭu varmam, moḻi varmam, maṇipanta varmam, muṇṭēllu varmam, tutikkai varmam, nāy talai varmam, kutirai muka varmam, tilarta varmam, kōṇa caṉṉi varmam and pāta cakkara varmam; and ciṟiya atti curukki. The text explains cases of injuries of varma, whose fractures (muṟivu) of the nasal septum (mūkkiṉ matti), in the mid line (naṭuvari) and in the sternum (kūmpukku mēl), wounds (kāyam) in the cervical (kūṇēlumpu), and traumatic injuries (kuṟṟam) in eyes and ears. It provides information on the treatment for stopping bleeding (rattam) from nose (mūkku), penis (liṅkam), and in knee joints (muḻaṅkāḷ) and on the method of relaxing varma point in case of nasal congestion (mūkaiṭaittāl taṭava). The text describes the pulses: basic nāṭi, kuru and kaṭikāra nāṭi, and the nerve networks in the body. It explains some diseases such as fever (curam), ascitis (peruvayiṟu), tuberculosis (cayam), abdominal colic (cuḻali), and the state of unconsciousness (mayakkam) Additionally, it presents the way (vitam) that an individual has to teach a (medical) text. Size of the manuscript: 27.5cm x 3.8cm. The palm leaves of the text are numbered from 1 to 58 in Tamil. A 1st leaf placed at the beginning of the manuscript says: "with the spirit of Puḷippāṇi, I write this text". There are five blank leaves placed at the end of the manuscript. The manuscript is in excellent condition, but some leaves are very dark.
