வர்ம சூத்திரம்

Title in original script: வர்ம சூத்திரம் The manuscript is composed of a text containing 66 palm leaves numbered from 1 to 66; the text is incomplete. The manuscript is in very good condition; the first two leaves are slightly damaged by rodents. The text, entitled Varma Cūttiram, is attributed to Pulippāṇi, one of the major cittar renown for siddha medical and alchemical treatises. The text, written in verses, deals with the knowledge of varma practice. It mentions a number of energy points: tilartta kālam, naṭcattira kālam, cevikuṟṟi kālam, piṭari kālam, uṟakka kālam, tummi kālam, nēr varmam, uṟumi kālam, aṭappa kālam, curukki kālam, ciṟiya atti curukki, kallaṭai kālam, uḷvarma tāṉaṅkaḷ (vital points), caṅku tiri kālam, muṇṭellu varmam, mūttira kālam, vittu kālam, aṇṭa kālam, cūḻiyāṭi varmam, kārīral varmam, pūṭṭellu varmam, aḻavāṭi varmam, viḻaṅku varmam, pūja varmam, cuḷukku varmam, mūṭṭu varmam, moḻi varmam, maṇipanta varmam, tutikkai varmam, taṭciṇai kālam, kavaḷi kālam, iṭukku varmam, pātakalai varmam, kutirai muka varmam, kompēri kālam, kōṇa caṉṉi varmam, pātacakkara varmam, tiṭa varmam and aṭaṅkal kālam. It specifies some injuries of vital points: mūkkiṉ matti kāyam, kaipuṭṭi kāyam, naṭuviti kāyam, kūmpil kāyam, kūṇelumpil kāyam and narampu piṉṉal. It describes the methods of relaxing or treating injuries of varma points (taṭavu muṟai) , notably injury of the right eye (valatu kaṇ kuṟṟamāṉāl), of ears (ceviyil vicai eṟṟāl taṭava), bleeding from nose (mūku vaḻi rattam), ear (cevi), penis (liṅkam), mouth (vāy), chest (mārpu), nerve in the neck region (kaḻuttu narampu), below neck region (kaḻuttiṉ kīḻ pākam), below knee joint (mūṭiṉ kīḻ), knee joint (muḻaṅkāl nāṭi) and nerves of the knee joint (mūṭṭu narampu), and hand (kāy), internal bleeding from the face (uḷ nāṭi). It provides also information to treat certain health conditions: nasal congestion (mūkkaṭaittāl taṭava), kuru nāṭi, a type on nerve (tāṅkal narampu), highly morbid fever caused by varma injury (kāyam koṇṭu viṣa curam vitam), ascites (peru vayiṟu), tuberculosis (caya nōy) as well as unconsciousness stage (mayakkam). Additionally, the text discusses the method of sharing the knowledge of the books on varma practice. This has to be understood by the fact that the knowledge of varma energy points may be used to treat but also to kill or to injury a person. Size of the manuscript: 30.3cm x 3.5cm. The palm leaves of the text are numbred from 1 to 66. The manuscript is in good condition, the 2 first leaves are lightly damaged by rodents. The text is complete.
