மாக ஸ்நான புராணம்

Title in original script: மாக ஸ்நான புராணம் The manuscript is formed of a text entitled Māka Snāṉa Purāṇam written by Vīrapattirar. It is in excellent condition. The text, in verses, is written in ammāṉai style which mixes Tamil and Sanskrit words. The text containing 371 palm leaves is complete. The Purāṇam presented in the text relates a story with the aims of explaining the benefits of taking bath in Māka mātam (mid-January-mid-February month) with a story. Some Ṛṣi, residing in the forest, used to approach Cūta Paurāṉi to ask him to tell some old stories. One time, he related the Māka Snāṉa Purāṇam. There was a king named Tilipaṉ. He was born in the Cūriya lineage. A day, I went to the forest for hunting. He caught sight of a hen with an extraordinary glowing appearance. Suddenly, the hen transformed itself into a Ṛṣi. Very surprised, Tilīpaṉ asked the Ṛṣi from where he was coming and why he took the appearance of a hen. The Ṛṣi replied: “Oh Almighty King, I am coming just after taking Māka snāṉam” (bath during the month of Māka). Intriguing, the King requested more explanations from the Ṛṣi who accepted to detail all the benefits obtained from the Māka snāṉam. Size of the manuscript: 40.0cm x 3.8cm. The manuscript contains a text composed of palm leaves numbered from 1 to 371, 1 introductive leaf and 3 blank leaves. The condition of the manuscript is excellent.
