The texts approach various subjects related to medical and esoteric knowledge comprising mostly products based on alchemical and iatrochemical processes and yogic and ritual performance. The manuscript is extremely damaged, infested by fungus and by egg strings of insects which have disintegrated the scripts at the extremity of leaves. Text 1- The text, entitled Nōy Nitāṉaṅkaḷ, contains palm leaves numbered from 2 to 11. It describes diseases such as fever (curam), tuberculosis (cayam), sinusitis (pīṉicam), colic pain (cūlai), gastritis (kuṉmam), diabetes mellitus (nīriḻivu), as well as those related to the karma (karma viyāti). It specifies the state of pulse (nāṭi nilai) according to diseases, the fatal signs caused by a disease (maraṇa kuri). It describes also the signs of pregnancy (kaṟppakōḷ). Text 2- The text, entitled Cūtamuṉi Cūttiram, is formed by palm leaves numbered from 1 to 15, the 15th is broken. The text mainly describes the formulation of complex medicines and iatrochemical processes. The formulations mentioned in the text are Kantaka tailam and meḻuku; Raca paṟpam; Nāka centūram, Karuvaṅka centūram, Aritāra centūram, Kantaka centūram and Taṅka centūram; Civa kuḷikai and Poṟkuru; Uppu kaṭṭu and Kantaka kaṭṭu; and Nīlakaṇṭa vālai racam with its adjuvant (aṉupāṉam). The iatrochemical processes concern preparation of mercuric chloride (cavvīra), purification of copper (cempu cutti), and combination of copper sulphate and copper (turucu cempu). Text 3- The text, entitled Akattiyar Cuvāmi Cālam, contains palm leaves numbered from 1 to 4. It presents some mantiram chanting (uccātāṉam), the glory of the five letters na-ma-ci-vā-ya (añceḻuttu) and of three letters Ōm (mūṉṟeḻuttu). It describes the yogic posture of Ṥiva (Civayōkam) and the appropriate method of breathing used in meditation (pirāṇāyāmam). Text 4- The text, entitled Caṅkarācāriyār Uṭalaṟi Viḷakkam, contains palm leaves numbered from 1 to 13. It concerns some concepts related to siddha tradition, notably the theory of the five elements (aimpūta viparam), of the five chakra in meditation (mūlātāram, cuvātiṭṭāṉam, maṇipūrakam, aṉākatam and vicutti), and the glory of the five letters na-ma-ci-vā-ya (añceḻuttu viparam) and of the eight letters Ōm- na- mō nā rā- ya- ṇā-ya (eṭṭeḻuttiṉ viparam). The text is developing on morality for which it explains importance of personal discipline (cariyai) and the detrimental effect of lust (mōkam) and bad behaviour (tīṅkāṉa mārkkam). It explains the origin of god (aṭi muṭi aṟiya) and the means to visualise him (taricaṉam). Text 5- The text, Rutu Nāḷ Cāttiram, has an only leaf numbered 1. It provides predictions calculated at the beginning of the puberty (rutu). Text 6- The text, entitled Pūta Nāṭi Viparam, is constituted of palm leaves numbered from 1 to 9. It concerns diagnosis provided by pulse reading (nāṭi cāstiram), and by the measurement of a thread tied around the patient’s wrist (maṇikkaṭai cūttiram). Text 7- The text, entitled Akattiyar Vaittiyam, is composed of palm leaves numbered from 12 to 18. It describes diseases, notably indigestion (mantam), urinary tract infections (mēkam) including those which are fatal (elumpurikki mēkam) and vāta diseases they provoke (vāta mēkam), growths (kiranti), delirium (ruttira rōkam) and delirium during pregnancy (kaṟppa caṉṉi), Parkinson-like disease (pārica vāyu), gastric ulcer (cūlai kuṉmam), hemorrhoids (mūlam), dysentery (kirāṇi), colic pain due to vāta imbalance and vāta/pitta (vāta/pitta cūlai), and pregnancy (kaṟppa cūlai), skin disease (kuṭṭa nōy), as well as diseases caused by bad influence (tōṣa kuṟi). The text explains the seven constituents of the body (capta tātu) with their colour and characteristics in normal state and when the body is affected by a disease (tātu niṟam, tātu mīral, tātu naṭai). It describes the fatal signs (maraṇa kuṟi) of a disease. It presents the formulation of medicine for treating delirium called Caṉṉi kuḻampu. Text 8- The text formed of 3 leaves numbered from 1 to 3 is a part of Caṭṭamuṉi Nikaṇṭu. It describes the preparation of Aṇṭa cuṇṇam. It provides information on the way to collect the three salts (muppū mārkam) and nāta muppū, on fuller’s earth (vaḻalai, pūnīṟu), and on the elixir (amuri). It explains the appropriate manner to worship Ṥiva (Civa pūcai mārkkam). Text 9- The text containing 5 palm leaves numbered from 4 to 9 is a part of Maccamuṉi Nikaṇṭu. It explains wisdom (mey ñāṉa viparam) and the initiation of knowledge (tīṭcai muṟai). It evokes the goddess Cakti also called Vālai. It describes preparation of cuṉṉam (calcinated white medicines) and the use of salts (uppu) in medicine. Text 10- The text, entitled Koṅkaṇavar Atītam, has 2 leaves numbered 1 and 2. They describe clinical characteristics of some diseases (nōy kuṟi), and one of the six chakra-s, called cuḻimuṉai. Text 11- The text, entitled Puvaṉai Kalaikiyāṉa Tīpam, comprises palm leaves numbered from 1 to 10. It concerns esotericism. It explains the origin of god (āti antam), the appropriate method of worshipping the goddess Tēvi (Tēvi tuti), the rules for chanting a mantiram (mantira viti), making a chakra (cakkara viti), and drawing a yantiram on a disk made of iron or copper called takaṭukaḷ. It describes the 8 directions (ticaikaḷ eṭṭiṉ viti). Lastly, it presents some yogic postures (yōka nilai). Text 12- The text, entitled Vētāntam, has only a leaf, numbered 1, which explains how to attain perfection (vāta citti). Text 13- The text, entitled Koṅkaṇavar Aruḷiya Pāṭal, is formed of palm leaves numbered from 1 to 11. The text explains some formulation of medicines: Liṅka meḻuku and Vaṅka meḻuku; Cāra kaṭṭu Cuṇṇam and Kenti cuṇṇam. It describes the six chakras (āṟu ātāra kāṭci viparam). Text 14- The text, entitled Caṭṭamuṉi Nūl, contains 10 palm leaves numbered from 1 to 6 and 9-10; there are two leaves broken placed between leaves 6 and 9. It approaches esoteric subjects such as the concept of five elements (aimpūtam) or the method of obtaining god’s blessing (parāpara aruḷ). It evokes also the precepts of Vētāntam. Text 15- The text, not entitled, is composed of leaves numbered from 4 to 9. The text presents formulation of medicines of Kurunāta tailam, Corṇa paṟpam, Taṅka centūram and Turucu kuru. It explains the method of bathing the head (muḻukku muṟai). Text 16- The text, entitled Cēramāṉ Perumāḷ Ulā, contains 5 leaves numbered from 23 to 28. It praises the glory of Ṥiva (pañcāṭcara perumai) and explains its cult (aruṇāccala paṟṟu) by providing verses to honour him (pūraṇa mālai). Text 17- The text, entitled Nāṉmukaṉār Maṇimālai, is composed of palm leaves numbered from 1 to 17, the leaf 13 is missing. The text evokes esoteric subjects. It explains the beginning and the end of the universe (āti nilai, anāti nilai) and the gross state of the matter (aṭaṅkāta poruḷ). It describes the glory of God (ñāṉa cuṭaroḷiyiṉ makimai), the state of meditation (tava nilai) and the diverse conditions of breathing (cuvāca nilai) and how to attain the third eye (muccuṭaroḷi). It explains the bad effects caused by neglect of the guru (kuru nintai), by state of confusion of the thinking (cintai kalakkam) or by introspection (neñcaṟi viḷakkam) and the method to clear the thinking from confusion state (cintai aṟivaṟital). Text 18- The text, entitled Īsvaraṉ Caktikku Upatēcam, is composed of palm leaves numbered from 1 to 27. The text describes the breathing techniques (caram) that Ṥiva taught to Cakti, the techniques to intake oxygen (pirāṇa vāyu nilai), the yogic posture of Ṥiva (civayōkam), the means to achieve wisdom (ñāṉakiriyai), as well as the six chakra-s (āṟu ātāram). The text provides information on types of pulse (kuru nāṭi, akkiṉi nāṭi, nāṭi viparam) and on pulses when they are weak (nāṭi oṭukkam). It explains the three systems of the body which are of type solar, lunar and atmosphere (maṇṭalam viparam), the state of good health (yākkai nilai), and the importance in having proper sleep (nittirai perumai). The text finally evokes the light of sun and moon (cūriya cantira oḷi), the stars (naṭcattiraṅkaḷ) and the lunar day (titi). Size of the manuscript 18,3cm x 4,9cm. The composition of the 35 texts which form this manuscript is notified in the description. There are 5 blank leaves placed at the end of manuscript. The leaves are numbered in Tamil and in Arab but the two numbering do not correspond. The manuscript is in extremely bad condition and is difficult to use due to its fragility. It was infested by egg strings of insects which have damaged the scripts at the extremity of the leaves. The leaves are very darken due to fungus infestation.
