Title in original script: நயன விதி- 500 The manuscript is composed of an incomplete text containing 210 palm leaves numbered from 1 to 201. The manuscript is in excellent condition, but is affected by fungus. The text, written in verses, deals with eye diseases. It describes the history of diseases (viyāti varlāṟu), the features of good eye (nalla kaṇiṉ laṭcaṇam), how to prevent eye diseases (kaṇviyāti varāmalirukka) and to protect eye (kaṇ pātukāppu). It presents the various types of lens’ disorders: avati kācam, pitta kācam, ūru kācam, mantāra kācam, maṇi nīla kācam, mālai kācam, nīr kācam, nīla kācam, vāṟeḻu kācam, kumara kācam, vāta kācam, cilēttuma kācam, tuṉṉu kācam and vāla kācam; of smoky vision: pukaiccal and arūpam; of diminished vision: atti mantam, vitaṉa mantāram, mataṉa mantāram, ati mantāram); of blindness: tūya kaṇ kuruṭu and cāya kaṇ kuruṭu and night blindness (mālai kaṇ). It defines the types of eye’s ulceration caused by the movement of worms: nattai paṭuvaṉ, pakka paṭuvaṉ and kuvaḷai paṭuvaṉ); protrusion of the eyeball (paṭi kuntam); types of growth several coats or films over the pupil: kunta paṭalam, nīr paṭalam, nāka paṭalam, veḷḷai paṭalam; types of fleshy growth in eye: cuṭarāti māmicam, tur māmicam); types of abscess in the eye orbit: kuvaḷai vippuruti and pira vippuruti; trichiasis (muṭa mayir); bleeding of eye (kaṇṇil rattam); pain caused by increased eye pressure related to swelling (neṟi cūlai, kuvaḷai neṟital); swelling of eye (kaṇ puṭaittal); types of burning sensation in eye (viḻi erital, eriviḻi mayaṅkutal); wound in eye (avikāya viraṇam and kaṇraṇam) and tubercle in eye (uṇṭai eḻucci, eḻucci); itching in eye (kaṇ tiṉavu); white specks on the black of eye (cūkkira nōy); redness of the white portion of the eye (kaṇ civappu); intolerance to bright light (kūci viḻittal); fluctuation of pain in eye during the day (eḻu ñāyiṟu); as well as excessive lacrimation (nīr pāyccal); madarosis (mayir puḻuveṭṭu); types of blepharitis: pillam and nīr pillam; and ophthalmia neonatrum (amaram) Some diseases not identified are also specified: cūḻal vaṇṭerital; aḻikaṇ pirital; kaṇ aṭaital and cōrai kaṇ tuṭippu. Additionally, the text provides information on the appropriate time to administer medicine (maruntiṭum nēram). It explains the process to break or tear the growth in eye (kuṭōri muṟai). It gives some recommendations for teeth’s hygiene (tanta cutti) and to treat oral ulcer (akkarai rōkam). Size of the manuscript 28,2cm x 3,4cm. The palm leaves of the text are numbered in Tamil and Arabic from 1 to 210. Three blank leaves are placed at the end of the manuscript. The manuscript is in excellent condition, but is affected by fungus.
