பாலர் நோய்கள்

Title in original script: பாலர் நோய்கள் The manuscript is composed of a text containing 110 palm leaves numbered from 17 to 128; the text is incomplete. The text deals with diseases of children (pālar nōykaḷ) which are classified according to the category for which types, pathology and treatment are described. The text is divided in eight parts, each describing a specific category of child’s disease. The first part concerns the category cikappu nōy, a disease characterised by red rashes on skin. The types of cikappu which are explored in terms of clinical features and treatment are: uḷ cikappu, kōḻi pūvaṉ cikappu, ratta varṇaṉ cikappu, ari cikappu, ceṅkāmāri cikappu, vilvariyaṉ cikappu, nākaṉ cikappu, vaṟṇaṉ cikappu, kiranti cikappu, asti cikappu, rōma cikappu, aṇali cikappu, koḷḷi cikappu, kōḻi kaṇṇaṉ cikappu, nel cikappu, nāka cikappu and timir cikappu. The second part concerns the category kaṇai nōy, a disease caused by rickets manifesting itself by a muscular atrophy. The types of kaṇai nōy which are explored are: cura kaṇai, tūṅku kaṇai, mūlaretta kaṇai, vaṟṭcai kaṇai, veppu kaṇai, aṇal kaṇai, vīṅku kaṇai, mānta kaṇai, mañcaḷkaṇai, nīla kaṇai, iḷaippu kaṇai, mēka kaṇai, kaḻical kaṇai, kāycal kaṇai and kāca kaṇai. The third part concerns the category karappāṉ nōy or eczema. The types of karappāṉ nōy which are described are: māri karappāṉ, koḷḷi karappāṉ, attikāy karappāṉ, ceṅ karappāṉ, cūlai karappāṉ, veṇ karappāṉ, cura karappāṉ, viṣa karappāṉ, nīla karappāṉ, uḷḷurōka karappāṉ, veṭi karappāṉ and kaṭiviṣa karappāṉ. The fourth part explores the category akkara nōy or oral ulcer. The types of akkara nōy which are presented are: ciṅkuvai akkaram, pilli akkaram, iḷaippu akkaram, kaṭavāy akkaram, utaṭṭakkaram, retta akkaram and tonta akkaram. The fifth part presents the category ecci nōy, an infectious disease spread by salivary contact. The types of ecci nōy which are described are: aṉantaṉ ecci, nākaṉ ecci, vāyvu vēka ecci, kaḷi ecci, vaṟṇa ecci and kēkayaṉ ecci. The sixth part concerns palar vāta nōy or diseases caused by imbalance of vāta. The types of vāta nōy which are presented are: cura vātam, akkiṉi vātam, mūla vātam, vitai vātam, uṇakkal vātam, poruttu vātam, aticāra vātam and mēl mūccu vātam. The seventh part concerns cuḻiyaṉ nōy or colic pain. The types of cuḻiyaṉ nōy which are presented are: vāta vilā cuḻiyaṉ, pitta vilā cuḻiyaṉ, cilēṟpaṉa vilā cuḻiyaṉ, cuvāca cāca vilā cuḻiyaṉ and cura cuḻiyaṉ. Lastly, the eighth part is related to cura nōy or fever. The types of cura nōy which are described are: vāta curam, pitta curam, cilēṟpaṉa curam, uḷ curam, aṉpaṇāti curam, corai curam, māṅkica curam, atti curam, vāta caṉṉipāta curam, pitta caṉṉipāta curam, cilēṟpaṉa caṉṉipāta curam, piṟa viṣapāta curam, cilēṟpaṉa viṣa curam and tonta viṣa curam. Size of the manuscript 27,5cm x 3,1cm. The text is numbered in Tamil and Arabic from 17 to 128. The palm leaves from 1 to 16; 41 and 120 are missing. The leaves 1; 100; 101; 104; 119 and 121 are partly broken and the leaf 117 is very damaged.
