Titles in original script: நூல் 1: கண் மருத்துவம், நூல் 2: கண் நோய்க்கான மருந்துகள்; The manuscript possesses 94 leaves. It is composed of two texts. It is in excellent condition, but incomplete. The texts are written in verses and prose. Text 1- The text, entitled Kaṇ Maruttuvam, is composed of palm leaves numbered from 1 to 85; it is incomplete. It deals with eye diseases. It details types, etiology and clinical features of eye diseases and the medicines for treating them. The categories of diseases developed in the text are kaṇ kāca nōy (disease of the crystalline lens), catai paṭalam (growth of layers on the pupil), paṭalam (growth in eyes affecting the vision) with information on those curable and incurable, pacuviṉi paṭalam (a type), kumirtam (red boils on the eyes), eḻucci (tubercle in eye), kaṇ cukiṟaṉ (fleshy growth on the choroid), veḷḷeḻuttu (presbyopia), kuntam (protrusion of the eye ball), karu viḻi tōṣam (disease of the pupil), sixteen types of pillam (blepharitis), imai taṭippu (thickening of the eye lashes), parapa nōy (not identified), imai nīr cāytal (lacrimation), puḻu kaṭi and kirumi tōṣam (madarosis), kaṭai kaṇ tōṣam (disorder related to the angles of the eyes), kaṇ viṟaṇa paru (warts in the eyes’ edge), mūkku nīr pāyttal (rhinitis) The texts lists formulation of medicines which are: Medicated oils: Kamalāti tailam, Vilvāti tailam, Miricalāti tailam, Tiṟipalāti tailam, Mañcettiyāti tailam, Nayaṉa cañcīvi tailam, Makā elāti tailam, Makā tiṟipalāti tailam and Acaņa vilvāti tailam; Vilvāti eṇṇai, Cantaṇāti eṇṇai, and an oil against pīṇicatam. waxy medicines: Kāya kuḻampu, Veṉ kuḻampu, Navacāra kuḻampu, Lavaṇa kuḻampu, Veṇṇey kuḻampu, Veḷḷai kuḻampu, Reṭcaṇāti kuḻampu, Turucu veṇṇai kuḻampu, as well as a kuḻampu for imai cataikaḷ. Medicated ghī: Ayamōtaka ney, Karum kōḻi ney, as wel as ney for neṟical and paṭalam, Tārai ney for treating cukiṟaṉ, puṟavali, nericcal and kañcikam. Pills: Kontāti kuḷikai, Curōttirāti kuḷikai, Paccai kuḷikai, Paccai tāmpirāti kuḷikai, Cantaṇāti kuḷikai, Caṅkarāti kuḷikai, Raṭcanāti kuḷikai as well as kuḷikai for kuntam. Additionally: Piṟavitai for kaṇ eḻucci, Paṭavaḻāti kiṟutam. Text 2- This text is numbered from 24 to 32 (end of the text). It also describes medicinal formulations for eye diseases. The medicines which are mentioned are: Matukāti kuḷikai, Tāmpūrāti kuḷikai, Vacampu kuḷikai, Caṅkarāti kuḷikai, Paccai uņtai, Piṟavitai, ney tārai for kaṇvali (eye pain), medicine for kaṇ pukaicaḷ (blurred vision) and kaṇ neṟiyal (increased blood pressure in the eyes) and uṇṭai for pū vanta kaṇ (corneal ulcer mark). Size of the manuscript: 18,5cm x 3,2cm. It contains two texts. The 1st has 85 palm leaves of 14 or 16 lines numbered from 1 to 85; and the 2nd, 9 leaves of 16 lines numbered from 24 to 32. The manuscript is in excellent condition.
