Mountain District Magistrate Court Records 5 Nov 1844-21 Sep 1846

The volume contains details of cases brought before the Magistrate Court in the Mountain District between 5 November 1844 and 21 September 1846. All the cases in this volume were heard by the Justice of the Peace, Mr. Crowley. The document includes the date when the case was heard, the names of the persons charged, the Colony village they originated from, by whom they were charged, and the reasons. When the defendant is a woman, the name of her husband or father is also provided. It includes either the statement of the defendant or the plaintiff, or both, and sometimes of some witnesses. It also provides information on the sentence given. The volume is bound in blue cloth boards. There are some traces of damage from iron gall on several pages.
