A bilingual translation and commentary of the Mahāvagga section of the Samantapāsādikā aṭṭhakathā. This work composed by Burmese monk Jambudhaja was the most common nissaya of canonical Vinaya and Samantapāsādikā transmitted in Burma from the mid-seventeenth to the early twentieth centuries. However, the text of that work has not been critically established due to the presence of multiple versions of Vinaya nissaya compiled by different authors, all circulated with the same title. Very little reliable information on Jambudhaja is available except that he resided in a key secondary city of Upper Burma and was a recipient of a royally-bestowed monastic title.
