Wooden Box: Tengam (Wylie rten sgam) རྟེན་སྒམ Late nineteenth /early twentieth century

An old wooden box. This is a very unusual Tengam. Much larger than any other Buchen boxes I have seen, though similar in size to a Tengam in an astrologer household in Tabo. Perhaps it is not a Buchen Tengham as most Buchen tengam are smaller and clearly designed to be carried on the back whilst on tour. It is very ornately carved with a floral motif and snow lion on each door, lotus shapes on the uprights and top edge. The whole box has been recently painted in pink green red blue and yellow and brown. (I have seen only one other painted box). Approx 600 x 700 x 500 mm. One Wooden Box.

The material is owned by Jigmed Thakpa and has been handed down through several generations. All the materials in the archive are kept within the prayer room of the house.
