Description: Rufino Ortega (1847-1917) was an Argentine general who participated in the so called Campaña del Desierto or Expedition to the Desert directed by General J. A. Roca where the state’ army forces invaded Native-American territories and decimated the original population. During 1884 to 1887, he was Governor of the province of Mendoza. He also fought in the War against Paraguay.
